Kirila Looking To Put Another Successful Run In The Book This Weekend At Lanier
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JEFFERSON, GA (May 3, 2010) – After a solid debut for Gresham Motorsports two weeks ago, Gene Kirila hopes to author another successful racing chapter with the team when they travel to Lanier National Speedway for the Super Six Series Pro Late Model Stock Car event on Saturday, May 8.
To do it, Kirila will have to be a quick study as he has never raced at the venerable Braselton, GA speedway.
“The only thing that I know about Lanier is that it is a fast track and it will wear you out quickly,” said Kirila. “According to my crew chief, Gene Roberts, Lanier is a different animal. I’m going there with that mindset. It will be interesting to see how this track fits with my personality and style of driving.”
Fortunately for the17-year old Hermitage, PA native, his Gresham Motorsports team has plenty of experience on the 3/8-mile Lanier oval.
“The fact that my Gresham Motorsports team has raced at Lanier will definitely help me adjust faster,” said Kirila. “They already have the notes and set-ups to produce a good car and to run well there. That will be an advantage, plus we hope to test there this week, so hopefully that will help us have a great race weekend just like we did two weeks ago at Gresham Motorsports Park.”
Kirila faced the same trial by fire situation two weeks ago at Gresham Motorsports Park when he raced the No. 11 Gresham Motorsports Pro Late Model entry for the first time. Not only was he new to the team, but it was also his first appearance at the totally-refurbished GMP track.
Undaunted, Kirila quickly adapted qualifying seventh and finishing fourth in the Monolith 100.
“I think that race will help me out a lot,” said Kirila. “I wanted a solid finish and that’s what we got. To run and finish that well was a boost to my confidence. I can’t wait to go to Lanier this weekend to see if we can do it again. There are going to be some good drivers and cars there. It will be tough. I just want to run well in these first races together and get a top finish. That’s definitely the plan and the goal.”
Kirila and his No. 11 Gresham Motorsports stocker will take the green flag at Lanier this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
