Max Gresham Takes First Superspeedway Laps At Kentucky ARCA Test

SPARTA, KY (May 12, 2010) – Max Gresham got his first taste of superspeedway action Tuesday and the experience seemed to agree with the 17-year-old Griffin, GA driver.
“At first, the sensation of speed was pretty large,” said Gresham, who tested his No. 71 Gresham Motorsports ARCA entry at Kentucky Speedway yesterday. “As the day wore on, however, the speed just got to be second hand.”
Gresham – who also wheels the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Toyota – made a big impression in his ARCA debut last month winning the pole position and finishing sixth in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem (IN) Speedway. While still ineligible by ARCA rules to compete on superspeedways, Gresham is allowed to test at the larger facilities. Tuesday’s test revealed that the young driver is close to being ready to take on bigger and better things.
“The biggest challenge was to convince myself that the car could enter the corner that fast,” said Gresham. “I needed to convince myself that the car could handle it. Initially, I had some jitters with the fast pace going into the corners, but that went away pretty quickly.”
Gresham, who will run a select-event schedule of ARCA races this season for Gresham Motorsports, stated Tuesday’s test experience will help him make the next step as he speeds up the racing ladder.
“I definitely have a lot more confidence on the bigger tracks after this test,” said Gresham. “I also have a lot more confidence in this car. Gene Roberts and my Gresham Motorsports crew always put a great car under me and they were really helpful in getting me up to speed at this test. We’re going to test at Michigan in a couple of weeks. That’s a two-mile track and after today, I’m really confident that test is going to go well too.”
