Max Gresham Hopes To Keep Winning Streaks Alive
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
GRIFFIN, GA (May 19, 2010) – The Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota that Max Gresham will pilot in Sunday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series race at Iowa Speedway has never lost at the Newton, IA racetrack. If you think that's going to put a lot of pressure on the 17-year-old driver heading into the Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200, think again.
“I’ll be driving the same car Kyle Busch ran at Iowa and won with last year,” said Gresham. “That car has never lost here. Kyle has two wins in it and Joey Logano has a win in it at Iowa. I know that car is going to be just as fast when I step into it and we’ll have a chance at going four-for-four there with it. “
Gresham will be looking to fashion his own winning streak at Iowa this weekend. In his last NASCAR K&N Pro Series outing in the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota, Gresham led 146 laps and captured his first division win in the South Boston 150 at South Boston (VA) Speedway.
It was just his sixth career NASCAR K&N Pro Series start.
“Winning at South Boston was amazing,” said Gresham, who also won his first NKNPS pole at South Boston. “Mike Sibley (Gresham’s crew chief) and the JGR guys put a great set up under this car. I could drive the car anywhere I wanted to, We were fast throughout the whole race. I really have to thank the team, Joe Gibbs and Toyota for giving me this opportunity.”
Gresham has made the most of his JGR opportunity notching three Top-5 and four Top-10 finishes in his six starts. The Woodward Academy student – who will take final exams to finish up his Junior year of High School after the Iowa event – is hoping to continue that trend.
“I have a lot of confidence going back to Iowa this year,” said Gresham. “Our team had a great performance there last year with Kyle Busch winning in the spring and my third-place run there last fall. I know we’re going back there with a great car and I, as a driver, have a lot more knowledge about both the car and the track. Everyone has a ton of confidence after our last race and win at South Boston. We’re going to be looking for another productive day at Iowa.”
The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at Iowa marks the only event in which competitors from the East and West go head-to-head with championship points on the line. A total of $183,706 in prize money and posted awards are up for grabs at the event that will feature a 44-car starting field on the .875-mile Iowa oval.
Sunday’s Goodyear Dealers of Iowa 200 at Iowa Speedway will take the green flag at
3 p.m. Central Time. The race will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on SPEED on Thursday, May 27 at 6 p.m. Eastern Time.
