Charlie's Legends Debut
He finally made his decision, and he made the hard work count!! Charlie Gresham ran his first Legends Semi Pro race at Lanier National Speedway on Saturday, February 7, 2009. After three practice sessions, most of them in horribly cold weather, Charlie finally got to see how he stacked up with the other Legends drivers. After starting the race in 8th, dodging a couple of wrecks, and moving into 7th position, Charlie set off to run down the pack. After 8 or so laps he caught the pack, but found himself in a race for 7th as a few minor errors allowed him to be caught from behind as well. 4 or 5 laps of hard racing ensued, before Charlie lost the handle coming out of turn two on lap 17. He would not be discouraged today. Charlie re-fired the car, and joined the field without bringing out the yellow. Only slightly disappointed with a 12th place finish, Charlie was beaming with excitement as he climbed from the 7-11 Legends car.
"That's a lot more fun than Bandoleros" said the 12 year old GMS driver. "Man, if I could have just held onto it there!".
This week will bring more practice, and next week the Winter Flurries racers will be at Atlanta Motor Speedway where Charlie will make his first "flat track" start in his 7-11 Legends car.
