Gresham Takes ASA Southeast Series Points Lead Into Uncharted Territory At Orange County

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

GRIFFIN, GA – Even though Max Gresham will be making his first-ever appearance at Orange County Speedway this Saturday, he is confident he can win right out of the box at the Rougemont, NC oval.

“There’s no reason we can’t go out and win,” said Gresham of Saturday’s American Speed Association RC Cola/Moon Pie 100 at the 3/8-mile North Carolina track. “Our Gresham Motorsports team has a pretty good record at tracks we’ve never raced at before. We hadn’t ever raced at Dillon (Dillon, SC) and we won the ASA race there earlier this year. We always run good at new racetracks. I know we can do it at Orange County too.”

Last time out, Gresham started 14th and finished a solid fourth in the American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour 100-lap event at Lanier National Speedway. The effort vaulted the 16-year-old driver to the top of the ASA Southeast championship standings. Gresham owns an 822-785 advantage over runner-up Jason Hogan in the ASA points heading into Saturday’s Orange County battle.

“Going into a race as the point’s leader doesn’t really change anything,” said Gresham. “We’re going to approach this race just like every other one we compete in. We’re there to get a top finish and a win if we can. We won’t be conservative. In the last race at Lanier, our nearest point’s competitors had trouble and we went from having to win the race to getting a good finish. The goal then was to get to the finish with all four fenders and wheels on the car. We did that and it gave us the point’s lead.”

While Gresham has never raced at Orange County, the rising Junior student at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA will have the benefit of a test session at the track prior to Saturday’s event.

“I’ll have an opportunity to get used to the track before we race there,” said Gresham of his No. 7-11 team’s pre-race effort. “I really like testing because it allows me to find the appropriate line and find speed on the racetrack. I’ll be able to get in some valuable laps. It will also help us set-up wise because it’s been a long time since Gene (Gresham Motorsports crew chief Gene Roberts) has been there too. We’ll be able to get some good, current notes to work with when we come back.”

Gresham, the only driver with two ASA Southeast Asphalt Series wins this season, will take the green flag at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC July 11 when practice begins at 2 p.m. Qualifying is set for 5:30 p.m. with the 100-lap ASA headline event at 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time.
