Gresham Looking To 'Tune Up' At Lanier Saturday
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Griffin, GA (August 28, 2009) – Practice makes perfect. That’s the theory Max Gresham and his Gresham Motorsports Late Model stock car team will embrace this Saturday when they take on Lanier National Speedway.
“We’re going race at Lanier Saturday night to tune up for the James Garrison Memorial 100 that will be held there in a couple of weeks,” said Gresham Motorsports team manager Gene Roberts. “That’s a big race on their schedule this season and we want to be prepared. Lanier might look easy, but that place is nasty. I’m not sure you can practice enough to be good at that place.”
Gresham, a 16-year-old high school Junior student at Woodward Academy in College Park, GA, has had success in the past at the high-speed 3/8-mile Braselton, GA oval in both the Legends and Late Model divisions.
“I have a lot of laps at Lanier,” said Gresham, who will wheel the No. 7-11 Gresham Motorsports Park/World Crown 300 sponsored entry Saturday at Lanier. “I’ve won quite a few races there including two Georgia State Championships - one in a Legends car and one in a Late Model. It’s a tough place and no matter how many times you come back to it, it changes. It can really be a beast sometimes depending how much or little rubber there is on the track. It changes considerably every time.”
Last time Gresham visited Lanier, he drove his way from a 14th starting position to a fourth-place finish in the American Speed Association 100-lap event June 27.
“Our car was really good at Lanier the last time we were there, way better than we qualified or finished,” said Gresham. “We had a first- or second-place car, but sometimes you just have to take the finish you get and be happy with it. We were points racing that night, so we were happy with finishing fourth.”
Gresham and his family-owned Gresham Motorsports No. 7-11 ASA Late Model Stock Car will take the green flag in this Saturday’s regularly-scheduled Lanier weekly racing program at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
