Gresham Finishes 10th InJames Garrison Memorial At Lanier
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BRASELTON, GA (September 13, 2009) – Max Gresham and his No. 7-11 Gresham Motorsports late model ‘experimented’ their way to a 10th-place finish in the James Garrison Memorial 100 at Lanier National Speedway Saturday.
“We worked for days on a new handling package,” said Gresham. “It was all about running a new line hard into the corner and still being able to drive the car hard off the corner. We weren’t where we wanted to be with the set-up, but because we put so much time into it and because this wasn’t a point’s race, we decided not to throw it out and run it. We didn’t get the finish we usually get, but we learned a lot and we didn’t give up on what we had worked on all week.”
Gresham, looking to score his first Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) victory of the season, got a slow start in qualifying gridding his Gresham Motorsports Park/World Crown 300-sponsored late model 13th for the 100-lap event on the 3/8-mile Lanier paved oval.
At the drop of the green flag, the 16-year-old Woodward Academy student set his sights on the front of the field, but handling issues only allowed him to work his way to 10th by the end of the event.
“The field was really close,” said Gresham. “I think there was only a tenth of a second that separated first through 15th in qualifying. There were a lot of good cars and it was hard to pass. We were pretty loose from the center of the corner off throughout the race and that made it even harder to get by guys.
“In the end, we pulled through," Gresham continued. "Everyone on this Gresham Motorsports team worked their butts off this week. It was a hard week and I’m pretty sure everyone slept pretty good after it was all over.”
Gresham will park his late model ride this week and take another swing at the NASCAR Camping World Series East in the Heluva Good! Fall 125 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The race, part of a NASCAR weekend tripleheader along with the Truck and Cup divisions, will take the green flag Friday, September 18 at 5:10 p.m. Eastern Time.
