Charlie Gresham Goes To School At Lanier Legends Nationals

BRASELTON, GA (October 11, 2009) – Charlie Gresham found out just what it takes to be a top-notch competitor in the popular INEX/600 Racing Series in the Legends Nationals at Lanier National Speedway this weekend.
“I got to compete against some of the best racers in the nation, compete against guys I’ve never raced against, and see how guys from other parts of the country race,” said Gresham of the national event. “It was a real eye opener for me and a confidence builder too because I found out that I can race and compete with at least some of them.”
Gresham, just 13 years old and a first-year Legends division competitor, turned in a solid performance driving his way from the 13th starting position to second in the 30-lap B-Main Saturday.
“I kept looking low in Turn 3, diving to the apron and poking my nose under the leaders,” said Gresham. “I kept looking down there, but I just couldn’t get by. In the end, there weren’t enough laps to get it done, but finishing second and getting the experience was still good for me.”
While the effort didn’t transfer Gresham to the main event of the multi-day INEX/600 Racing event, he was still happy with his performance.
“I feel good about my weekend,” said Gresham. “This is my first year in a Legends car and I’m still getting used to driving a new car with a different feel and engine combination. I think I’ve made a lot of progress this year and I hope to improve even more next season.”
Before Gresham takes the green flag for the 2010 season, he hopes to close out the 2009 campaign in the inaugural INEX/600 Racing program at Gresham Motorsports Park on Friday, November 13. The opening-day event of the 26th-Annual World Crown 300 will feature full programs of Legends, Bandoleros and Thunder Cars on the newly minted GMP oval.
Racing action is set to begin at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
