Max Gresham, Gresham Motorsports To Make Jump To ARCA Ranks In 2010 - GMS Late Model Program Looking For New Driver Development Candidates
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Griffin, GA (December 21, 2009) – Max Gresham and Gresham Motorsports took a big leap into the future today with the announcement that both would be entering the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) ranks in 2010.
According to Gresham, the Griffin, GA based Late Model Stock Car team will compete in a select number of ARCA events next season including races at Iowa Speedway (July 10) and Rockingham Speedway (October 9).
“This is going to be a great opportunity for me and my team,” said Gresham. “It’s cool that we will be able to run this out of our Gresham Motorsports shops. We’ve got a great bunch of guys and we won’t have to spend any time getting to know each other. We already have a tight bond. It will be like wearing a new pair of socks with an old pair of comfortable shoes.”
A staple of American motorsports since 1953, the ARCA Series has provided young drivers an opportunity to compete in a national series in NASCAR-style full bodied stock cars. In addition to Gresham, several other top drivers - including Indy Car star Danica Patrick - will test the ARCA waters in 2010.
Gresham – who will turn 17 next April – posted an outstanding 2009 campaign winning two American Speed Association Southeast Asphalt Tour events. The young driver was even more impressive with four solid showings – including two Top-5 and three Top-10 finishes - in the Joe Gibbs Racing NASCAR Camping World Series East division entry in 2009.
“The key will be getting used to a new, heavier car and a bunch of new racetracks,” said Gresham. “It’s going to be a major learning year for us. We’ll be looking to do the same things we did in our Late Model and in the Gibbs' car – post strong qualifying runs and finishes. I can’t wait to get the season going to see what it holds for us.”
Gresham is just the latest driver to have taken advantage of the Gresham Motorsports Driver Development program. Previously, David Ragan, Joey Logano and Beau Slocumb have all benefited from their association with the team. Gresham’s departure from the seat of the No. 7-11 Gresham Motorsports Pro and Super Late Model programs will provide an opportunity for yet another group of up and coming drivers to gain valuable on- and off-track experience.
“I think our track record speaks for itself.” said Gresham Motorsports General Manager Gene Roberts. “We’ve had great success with David, Joey and Max and I personally had a lot of success developing Reed Sorenson. We have a great team here with people who have top notch experience levels. I would compare our record with anyone out there. We’re proud of what we’ve accomplished here. We’ve had a great success rate.”
