With the encouragement and inspiration of his grandfather (Jim Gresham), Max began racing Bandolero’s at the age of 8. Gresham and his family traveled extensively during the early years to secure as much track time as possible. Travels included visits to tracks in Texas, Florida, Alabama, Kentucky, North Carolina and Tennessee. Gresham was fortunate to have David Ragan (currently NASCAR Nextel Cup driver for Roush Fenway Racing), Joey Logano (currently a developmental driver for Joe Gibbs Racing) and Beau Slocumb [Late Model driver for Brothers Racing and 2004 Pro (Legends) National Champion] as teammates and coaches during those early years.
2005 brought five championships to the trophy case at the Gresham house. The Bandolero Bandits championships included the division championship for the state of Georgia, Thursday Thunder (Atlanta Motor Speedway), Hardees Summer Shootout (Lowe’s Motor Speedway), Georgia Winter Series and AMS Winter Flurry Series. During 2005, Gresham racked up seven wins and 33 Top-Five finishes while only suffering one DNF out of 35 starts.
Gresham’s success continued into 2006. Highlighted by a Semi Pro National Championship, Max’s other accomplishments include finishing 4th in points at Thursday Thunder (Atlanta Motor Speedway), 9th in the Summer Shootout (Lowe’s Motor Speedway), 2nd in the Georgia state championship standing and 14th in the National point standings. His results include 8 wins and 23 Top-Five finishes in 47 starts. After moving to the Pro division in November, Gresham accumulated 3 wins in only 5 starts.
2007 was Max’s first full year in the Pro division and his first time behind the wheel of a Late Model. This new venture started off with Max becoming the youngest driver to ever enter the ASA Late Model record books with a win at the GM Performance Parts Shootout. His accomplishments didn’t stop there with a third in points at Thursday Thunder, 13th in the Lowe’s Motor Speedway Summer Shootout, currently 31st in the national point standings heading to Las Vegas for the INEX Asphalt Nationals in October.
Gresham is a student at Woodward Academy in East Point, Georgia where he competes on the school’s wrestling team. He also enjoys fishing, hunting and scuba diving.
